Not to be confused with the Colt Model 1877 Thunderer, a Charles Mason design which was Colt’s first attempt at manufacturing a double-action revolver, the Cimarron Thunderer is not a reproduction of a firearm that was manufactured or existed in the late 1800s. This six shooter was designed in 1990 by Cimarron president “Texas Jack” Harvey and is produced by Italian gun maker Uberti exclusively for Cimarron.
Intended to be built “the way Old West guns should have been”, the Thunderer is based on a forged pre-war style 1873 frame. The grip style is very similar to the Colt Model 1877. This mating of two popular Old West styles has made this wheel gun a very popular choice with today’s shooters. While it’s not historically correct, it’s still an attractive pistol and a lot of fun to shoot!
