John Browning designed the robust Winchester Model 1886 to handle the heaviest black powder cartridges of the day. It was originally chambered in .45-70, .45-90 WCF and .40-82 WCF, and was later offered in other large calibers. The action proved strong enough to make the jump to modern smokeless powder with only minor modification, and the rifle continued to be produced well into the 1930’s.
This modern day reproduction by Italian fine gun maker Davide Pedersoli is faithful to the original design but is built using modern metallurgical processes. It is chambered in.45-70 Government and features a color case hardened receiver, a 26″ octagonal barrel and an oil-finished American black walnut stock.
